Pure Michigan Countryside in Summer
We have had a very nice week in Michigan, the asparagus is sprouting, and hubby is on a mission to pick as much of it as he can find. So I decided to share with you some of the photos I snapped while we were out picking. Hubby asked me if I wanted to go asparagus hunting and I said no, I had so much work to get done at home and not enough time to do it in. Just as he was waking out the door I hollered, “I’m going”. I decided it was a perfect opportunity to see some sights and take a few photos of what summer in Michigan is all about. I left the asparagus picking up to him, I didn’t want to come in contact with any poison ivy.
All I have to do is look in the direction of poison ivy and I’m covered in it. So I was happy to just ride along with the windows down and enjoy photographing all the things I love about summer and country living.
I think hubby knows every backroad and asparagus picking place there is within a 60 mile radius of our house and he can spot the smallest sprout growing amongst the grass. I’m always saying I don’t see anything yet he seems to find it every time. Apparently I just don’t have the eye for find asparagus like he does.
I do however have the eye for spotting things I love and red barns and cows are on that list. I’ve never seen a red barn that I didn’t love, they just scream country living at it’s best to me.
I lived in the city once for about 2 years and hated ever minute of it, I know many people love city living but it’s not for me. I love the open space, fresh air, and slow paced lifestyle of living in the country.
I want to walk outside and see the stars at night with no city lights, fog, or smog. I love to hear the frogs croaking at night, the coyotes howling, and the birds sings at dawns light.
Yep its certain I’m a country girl for sure. I wouldn’t want to be any other place on earth, I love my life, my home, my family, and my country roots.

Hard to find anything much better than summer in the country. I can almost smell the fresh Michigan air from here. xo Laura

Thank you Vanessa, no better place to be in the summer time.
Dawn your pictures are just so stunning!! And I cannot believe your Hubs can find asparagus like that! I think that is the coolest thing! Your projects are always great and I am loving your rustic Summer porch so much!! Pinning this one and that one too!
Claire, thank you for pinning the porch pic ๐ Yes hubby has an eagle eye for asparagus. LOL
Dawn, y’all are so lucky to find asparagus growing wild. We have an asparagus bed and I get a few spears a day so I have to save up for about a week to have enough to cook! I’m pinning that red barn to my red barn board on Pinterest. I have a thing about them, too, because we had a red barn when I was growing up (and cows!)
Jane, we get asparagus by the arms loads. I have tried to grow it without success. I do believe salting the soil heavily is the trick.
Where do you live in Michigan? I lived there all through school – Ann Arbor and Big Rapids. I have to say, it’s beautiful here in southwest Virginia, but I am a bit homesick for my old home state.
Grace I am in Bellevue a small village about 1 hour north of the boarder. Ann Arbor is about 1.5 hours north of me. I love Michigan ๐
