Small Space Laundry Room Changes
Our small black and white laundry room/guest bathroom had a little appliance failure last Sunday. About 6 moths ago our dryer started making the most high pitched squeaking noise, it still functioned and dried clothes but the noice was ear piercing.
I went to our local appliance store and told them the model and what it was doing, they said it was an easy fix so I purchased the $75 part and headed home for hubby to replace it. Well it was easy to fix once hubby disassembled the complete dryer to get the the part. He said if the part went out again buying a new dryer is what we would do.
Well wouldn’t you know it the squeaking started again, and was louder than ever this time. I endured it and only dried clothes when everyone else was at work and always closed the laundry room door. I tried to spare everyone from the horrid noice even though it wasn’t always possible.
Last Sunday morning I was doing a quick load of clothes that hubby needed for going out of town, and while old squeaky was doing it’s thing I noticed it shut itself off. I went in and restarted it but it again shut off after a few minutes. I told hubby I was off to buy a new dryer, if he wanted to go along and help pick one out.
I went to my secret stash and put $500 into my wallet, grabbed a water to go and hubby and I loaded up in the truck. I had no idea how much a new dryer was going to be the one that just conked out was 6 years old and I don’t remember what I paid for it, but my budget was $500.
Good thing hubby went along with me, I had no idea our dryer vent on the old dryer was vented through the bottom which meant the new one would have to be the same. Wouldn’t you know it none of the inexpensive models vent through the bottom and we only found 2 manufactures that make them that way.
After searching 2 stores and not finding anything in my price range that vented out the bottom hubby suggested we go to ABC warehouse. The look on my face said it all, I hate going in there the workers stalk you for a sale and it makes me angry. We went in close to closing time so no one bothered us at all. Finally a nice young salesman approached us and after telling him I needed a bottom venting dryer he said he had one that was marked down, originally $1087 to $847 and since it was the last one he’d make us a better deal.
I looked at hubby and said, it better be a lot better deal because I only had $500 on me. The gentlemen went to his computer and worked the numbers and gave me the grand total of $447. I said sold and we loaded it into the back of the truck and headed for home. I must say I don’t mind doing laundry again. It’s never been a chore I dislike but the noise of the dryer was enough to make me hate the task.
Great deal, Dawn! Congratulations
Oh boy, our old dryer is making a squeaky noise too and fortunately the vent is in the back.
Good deal Dawn, cash, on budget, truck, and your husband for muscle:). Sometimes you pay to have it delivered.
Have a beautiful Spring day, Kathleen in Az
Don’t you just love it when a great deal comes along. I love me a GOOD bargin !
Your laundry room is just darling! Way to go negotiating! Have a great week!
Nice work! It always feels good to get a deal! Your laundry room is so nice. Mine is in the basement in a room I call “the pit!”
Julie, we have a hoookup in our basement too for a laundry room but I wanted everything on the main level of the house so when we get old we don’t have to climb stairs.
Great idea to put your laundry on the main floor. Too many people do not build or buy a home with the thought in mind that they will be getting older one of these days. Even if you’re young, something like foot or knee surgery can make downstairs laundry or no bedroom on the mail floor, a nearly impossible way to live.
Pat, I lived growing up in a 4 story home and I hated going to the basement to do laundry. When hubby suggested it in this home I had a big NO to that.
