How to style open shelves with pottery

In my last post, I shared my pottery collection with you, and today I’m back to show you how I’ve decorated the open shelves in the dining room with the thrifted finds.

I started by removing the white shelves (which match my kitchen cabinets) and painting them in SW “Rock Garden” green. I also removed the cow print and moved one of the shelves into that location.

At this point, I had a WOW moment. I can’t believe what a difference the green paint makes. It changes the entire feel and mood of the space. Who would have thought it would have made such a difference?  I must confess I’m also thinking long and hard about painting the kitchen cupboards green now. My only fear is if I don’t like them it will be a lot of work to change them back to off white and I also wonder about resale.

I’m enjoying my newfound pieces and adding a few live plants makes it look all the better. I have several faux plants sprinkled around the cabin and I’m slowly trying to change them over to live plants. I don’t know if you’ve priced plants lately but they are so expensive. My plan is to hopefully get cutting from other people that I can root and have house plants for myself.

I’ve really enjoyed making changes in our home lately. For a while, I’d lost my zest for decorating and I think I’m back on track now with the new/thrifted look I’m going for.

I’m making changes to my office also right now. It’s the most challenging space to decorate. I have to have all the pieces necessary to run a business so I need it to be functional but I also want it to be pretty. We’ll see what I come up with in there and I’ll be back to share the mini makeover soon.

Looks beautiful! Color often gives me a boost when I’ve lost my zest for decorating, too!

  2. It looks wonderful, Dawn. Is that the spot where you were considering having a corner cupboard? I think I prefer this look.

  3. Good morning Dawn! I have a few pottery pieces also. The uniqueness draws me to them. Also my son made me a few pieces in art class. Those are very special. I have a pitcher that matches your brown bowl with dotted circles. I would love to gift it to you. I also have cuttings from my house plants you are more than welcome too. I actually have a beautiful window in our new house and have been successful in growing houseplants. Finally! LOL
