Porch Makeover With New Area Rugs and Pillows

Iโ€™m sure you are all sick of reading and seeing gardening posts by now so I thought Iโ€™d better throw in a little home decor. Itโ€™s been quite a few years since Iโ€™ve changed out the decor pieces on my porch.ย  I move things around and use them in different areas but the black and white theme has been around for a while.

Well this year I was in the mood to use blue and green like I am on the inside of the cabin.ย  The black and white area rugs were sun faded and everything was looking a little dreary.ย  So I popped into Lowes and picked up 2 new area rugs and 2 new throw pillows and 2 chair cushions for the dining set. I was proud that I limited myself to only two pillows.

The large blue patterned pillows are the new ones, the green kiwi ones are also from Lowes but those were a mothers day gift from last year and the buffalo checked ones I had. ย

Everything else you see are things Iโ€™ve had and use all around the house.ย  Did you happen to notice the minnow bucket I have on the cabin wall? I opened the hatch hoping a bird would nest in it.ย  Iโ€™m not sure why Iโ€™m encouraging birds to be on the porch, they make such a mess, but I do enjoy watching them work.

All the plants are from last years porch. I decided to bring them in last season to see if theyโ€™d make it through the winter; and they did. Iโ€™m very surprised because Iโ€™m not good with indoor plant. But they all made it so Iโ€™m reusing them again this year.ย  Wow that really makes me feel like Iโ€™ve got my monies worth.ย

Even the rug by the door is a repurpose from somewhere else in the house and the canning jar rug has been there for years. I found it at Tractor Supply and it stays looking nice because no one ever uses this entrance of our house.ย  If someone comes to this door I know we donโ€™t know them.

I have a little trick to share with you for keeping the area rugs in place.ย  I use an upholstery staple gun and staple the rug down to the boards on the deck.ย  It is always and I mean ALWAYS extremely windy at our place and the rugs blow up so stapling them keeps them in place. Also when I go out to vacuum them it keeps them from being sucked up.

Did you notice I painted (Sherwin Williams Privilege Green) the crate I use for a coffee table? I have no idea why I never thought of painting it before, but I didnโ€™t. I canโ€™t believe how much color it adds. I also found a runner of eucalyptus amongst my stash that I twisted around some grapevine from the woods to make a rustic front door wreath.ย

It was so nice to be outside decorating that day. It was 79 degrees and it felt heavenly. Of course this is Michigan and it may snow again for all I know but I sure was enjoying it while it lasted. As you all know; sitting on my porch and enjoying nature while reading a good book is my happy place.
